Introduction

INTRODUCTION

For my master’s thesis at ESMA Toulouse, our collaborative group crafted a 5-minute film set on a Dodo-filled island, navigating technical challenges posed by a substantial cast and intricate visual effects.

I spearheaded the development of a USD pipeline on Solaris/Houdini, a venture supported by the use of the Dispatcher Tractor and the RenderMan rendering engine.

This article aims to provide a straightforward and descriptive account of the production process, detailing the practical steps, including scripting and tool development.

In the subsequent sections, I’ll break down the practical steps taken during the production of our film. This includes an in-depth exploration of the USD pipeline development on Solaris, with a focus on scripting and tool creation.

Greetings to all members of the Dodos team for their trust. I would also like to thank my coworkers, Tom PERONY, who helped me craft a part of my script and imagine the way we do USD workflow.

I want to thank ESMA Toulouse and particularly my teacher, Yann PANNETIER, for helping me with a different part of the project and for his attentive listening.
